Sunderland arc Regeneration Network
On the 27 November 2008, Sunderland arc and its founding partners once again hosted their annual Regeneration Network, this time at the stunning new arts and business centre thePlace.
Presentations were given by Professor Michael Parkinson CBE, director of the European Institute for Urban Affairs, Liverpool John Moores University, incoming north east regional director of the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) Pat Ritchie and Cllr. Paul Watson, leader of Sunderland City Council. Sunderland arc chief executive David Walker facilitated the evening’s programme.
Professor Parkinson, who recently undertook the arc’s mid-term review, outlined his findings from a recent study he completed for the Government on the impact of the credit crunch on regeneration. He and the rest of the panel also took questions from the audience.
Chief executive of Sunderland arc, David Walker, said:
“We were delighted that so many people turned out for our second regeneration networking event. The calibre of speakers proved a big draw and the feedback we had from attendees was that it was an extremely informative and worthwhile event.
"It gave us an opportunity to showcase the city’s fantastic new £6m arts and business centre in one of our most successful regeneration areas. I also hope it helped to provide people with some confidence during a very difficult time. The headlines maybe bleak at the moment but Sunderland still has a lot to offer to potential investors looking for long-term opportunities that will make a major impact on a fast-growing city. We look forward to hosting many more similar events in the future.”
Attendees also had the opportunity to view Sunderland arc’s investment opportunities in an exhibition area and pick up a copy of the second publication of their annual regeneration magazine arc, published by 3Fox International who also organised the event.
